Rule Set Alpha (Free)
The rule set alpha has an expected release of Spring/Summer 2025 and is free to start playing. We do appreciate folks creating an account to “purchase” for free and download it and then get back to us with feedback from game play testing the system.

The first module available for GDW, including places, villains, and monsters. Will be updated with rule changes from alpha, to beta, to post-launch. This “evergreen” piece of the legend will stay relevant with the game no matter the release. Takes characters from (equivalent levels) one to six.
About the Game
Set in the late 1800’s, explore an alternate version of the west where the supernatural horrors of myth and legends roam free. Gather a posse of friends and explore a world reshaped by a war with dark forces that tried to corrupt all of humanity. From Gunslingers, Frontier explorers and those of the sciences to Spellbinders, individuals of faith, and those who are in tune with nature. Each path will allow you to make a character that is common to the archetypes of the period as well as those that push the limits of fantasy.
Visit the Rocky Mountains, now called the broken spine and the shattered valleys of the great caldera that sits before it. If mountains are not to your taste then visit the great plains where buffalo are no longer the biggest things that roam the plains.
Players and Game Masters engage in a unique push and pull mechanic of the Risk Dice pool. Players use dice
from the pool to power abilities both in and out of combat. Once done, they hand them to the Game Master who can then use them to do the same but with monster abilities and location triggers. Once the Game Master is done using them, they return to the Risk Pool for players to pull from. This back and forth facilitates engaging story telling.
Grimdark West Alpha Rules has an expected release of Spring/Summer 2025. Join us in helping to shape the game into something amazing. Along side the Free Alpha Rules we are releasing an “Evergreen” Adventure to get players started called: A Little Town Called Brea. Players will explore the town of Brea in the Dakota territory during the war with the darkness.
